"There are just some things that should just stay on consoles.
Thats right. Sorry Square Enix. Sorry Atlus. We know that Shin Megami Tenseis first English port will be in the form of an iOS and Android version and it could be decently playable, but were not holding our breath here.
While its admirable to see some ports of old school games for new audiences, it just seems shameful to see things like sprites getting watered down (re: Final Fantasy VI) or changing games to feature in-app purchases. Games with illustrious histories that stir up emotions within its fanbase deserve to be played, but maybe not with microtransactions. Nostalgia does not need to be nickeled and dimed. Step away from clear notions of good and evil, right and wrong. There are demons in the world, but whether they are ally or enemy depends on player actions. In Tokyo 199X, a mysterious murder leads to the emergence of demons and an escalating global conflict thanks to the rise of a charismatic rebel leader in possession of a demon army, and external forces that wish to crush such threats with extreme measures. As the protagonist, players have an unusual ability (via computer program) to communicate with and recruit demons to fight for them. As if the Persona newsplosion wasn't enough, Atlus has announced that the original Shin Megami Tensei will come to the App Store in March 2014.
This is big news for the Atlus faithful, not just because this is the RPG that started both the award-winning SMT and Persona franchises, but because this is the first time that the original Shin Megami Tensei has been released outside of Japan.
